Join me in Stockholm at the lovely winebar 'E & G' on 7 December, 11.30h, for an Advent Brunch with plenty of food.
Ok. So Sophia and I hosted this pretty cool Brunch event as part of our Two Kitchens Brussels Supper Club & Cooking Class series (Click here to check this out).
I think whoever invented brunch is a genius. Mixing the best parts
of breakfast with the best features of lunch and combining them into one
delicious meal. Getting up late on a weekend (hangovered or not), putting on
some lazy clothes and starting into the day with: coffee. Oh yes, before I had
my coffee you shouldn’t try to start any kind of conversation with me. Not
because I’ll be mean (ok, maybe sometimes), but simply because I can’t stop thinking
about that perfect drink in my hands. After coffee I am in for everything and
anything. Pancakes with fried egg, maple syrup and bacon?! Oh, yes! Chicken
& sweet waffles and some more sweet maple syrup on top?! Now we’re talking!
Truffled eggs toast with runny egg, melted cheese and truffle oil?! Get into my
belly!
I haven't written an individual post on a restaurant for a long time now. Simply, because I think that most people are more interested in an overview of several places, rather than reading 10 posts about different places (Tell me if I am wrong, I am happy to change this). Also, it obviously takes up more time, which I don't always have. But this one here is worth it.
Kitchen 151 deserves its own post - and here is why. First of all, I've spotted the place already during my first weekend here in Brussels in the beginning of November. As always, I start exploring the city by walking around, making a turn into little streets and discovering hidden places. So I had a look at their menu and it sounded very appealing, Middle eastern cuisine with an Ottolenghi-ish twist. The interior looked a lot like places that I normally like to go to; simple, yet nicely decorated - lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling, decorated with flowers, colorful water jugs and dried flowers - a wooden floor, simple wooden tables, pastel colors and that cosy feeling that you get when entering the place and sitting down.
Ich wünsche euch allen einen guten Morgen an diesem schönen Sonntag! Startet in den Tag mit diesem zuckersüssen Ofenpfannkuchen mit Ahornsirup glasierten Äpfeln.
I wish everyone a great Sunday morning! Kick it off with this delicious Dutch Baby Pancake topped with maple glazed apples and toasted almonds.
Mornings are for brunch! Especially on a hangover weekend's morning. Paris is becoming more and more brunchy and even though I tried my best, I didn't visit all of them and there is still some places left that are waiting for me.
A final Restaurant Friday post for my {Street Food September} month: A Street Food Brunch Market. Is there more you could ask for?! No. This really nice market, taking place every third Sunday of the month is great for post-hangover mingling or just chilling out, having coffee with a waffle, an Asian omelette or sticky breakfast rice. You will probably find almost every morning dish you could imagine here. It is located quite well (Berlin Kreuzberg) so you can stroll around the neighborhood afterwards, or go to the Friedrichshain flea market, or simply go home.
'The Breakfast Club'. The name already tells what it's all about. Pancakes, bacon, eggs benedict..well basically everything you need for a proper breakfast, brunch or just a hangover meal. 'The Breakfast Club' reminded me a lot of New York; not only because of the delicious food, but also because of the insane waiting time. It was worth it, though!
"Where did you have brunch?", was a question I heard quite often during my stay in NYC. I got used to it quite fast, I'd say. Sunday was my brunch-day and no matter what would happen - no major hangover, no natural catastrophe - nothing could keep me from having my sunday brunch. So
couldn't the terrible cold in Montreal during my stay in November. I already talked about that >> here.
Kaffee, my essential every-day-drug. Back home, I managed to rehab from it and switch to my beloved Kusmi, Mariage Frères or Theodor tea, but here in New York that paper cup in your hand is a must-have accessory ;)! Besides, in NYC you can find many coffee bars, which serve great coffee (And I'm definitely not talking about Starbucks here!!). So while strolling through TriBeCa, one of my favourite neighbourhoods, I found this super nice coffee place serving not only the dark elixir against morning grumpiness, but also various sorts of pastries and lunch dishes.
Starting into the day with a nice brunch is the best thing you can do. Enjoying sun, life and the many different restaurants NYC has to offer. Cafe Orlin is a cute restaurant in East Village on St Marks Place, where you actually can find plenty of other restaurants. I picked that one though, because of its nice atmosphere, the feasible prices and because there you can sit outside and enjoy the last sunrays.
Sunday = lazyday. Brunch on a Sunday noon
is one of the best things I can imagine. Probably the best place for having brunch is Berlin
with its buffets, where you can’t decide what to pick and in the end
you basically end up trying everything. Here in NYC (and maybe the US?!) it is
slightly different.
